Having a beautiful smile starts with having healthy teeth. But even then, sometimes we need a little help from cosmetic dentistry when it comes to feeling confident about the smile we were born with.
At Ranieu Family Dentistry, our Vancouver cosmetic services can help you to change the way you feel about your smile’s appearance. Depending on your specific needs, we often recommend one or a combination of treatments like:
Porcelain or Chairside Dental Veneers
Made of thin layers of porcelain or resin, veneers are bonded over the front of your teeth to hide every irregularity behind them, giving you a dramatic, perfectly sculpted and bright white smile. They’re the ideal solution when you’re searching for a “Hollywood” smile that’s red carpet ready!
Veneers are particularly suited for teeth that are:
- Uneven, worn, or chipped
- Gray due to tetracycline
- Discolored and stained
Ranieu Family Dental uses one of the best dental labs in the area, where each porcelain veneer is handcrafted by ceramic experts. The process only takes about two visits to complete.
Choose between same day in-house teeth whitening or custom take-home trays. We even offer a Whitening for Life program that allows you to receive a complimentary in-office whitening treatment once a year after enrolling, for as long as you keep your regularly scheduled cleaning appointments. At-home whitening using your custom take-home trays can obtain similar results as same-day whitening, but takes more time and dedication. At-home whitening typically uses a less strong bleaching solution.
Same day whitening, also known as “chairside whitening,” takes only about 30 minutes to complete, and you’ll see immediate results! The ZOOM! procedure starts with us gently preparing your teeth and covering your gums with a protective barrier. When your teeth are ready, we apply a professional grade bleaching agent, which we wash off and re-apply at set intervals. We typically recommend whitening your teeth prior to any other type of cosmetic treatment, as we strive to match your restorations to the teeth adjacent to them. If you whiten after having a restoration completed that is a darker shade, the restoration will not match anymore!
Throughout the years, molecules that stain your teeth seep in through the porous enamel. Brushing with a whitening toothpaste can remove surface (extrinsic) stains, but only a specially formulated bleaching agent can penetrate the enamel and remove deeper (intrinsic) stains. Teeth whitening works through the application of an active ingredient to the tooth surfaces, most often carbamide or hydrogen peroxide in concentrations between 10-38%. This bleaching agent temporarily dissolves the pellicle film (a protective protein film that forms on top of the enamel) in order to penetrate to where the deep stains “live.” The chemical reactions caused by the bleaching agent break down those stubborn, unattractive stains and leave your teeth looking whiter and rejuvenated!
Aging and habits such as drinking coffee and red wine can darken the teeth over time. For dramatic whitening results completed by a dental professional, we offer in-office ZOOM! Whitening. This reliable treatment can bleach your teeth up to 8 shades lighter in under one hour! We paint a protective barrier on your gums and lips and then apply a strong concentration of hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth. We use a special laser light to help the bleach quickly and effectively penetrate through your teeth to break up deep stains. Effective and fast, ZOOM! Whitening can stand alone as a smile makeover on its own, or you can combine it with other cosmetic procedures for beautiful results.
Philips is currently offering a $50 savings towards all ZOOM! Whitening treatments. For more information about how to enroll for your rebate, visit our instruction page.
For aesthetic challenges that involve misalignment of the teeth, such as crowding, gaps, or overbites, clear Invisalign braces offer a natural and effective solution. The invisible orthodontic treatment moves your teeth so they’re straight without the need for brackets and wires. Adults and teens love them!
Did you know that orthodontic treatment offers more than just cosmetic benefits? Straighter teeth are easier to keep clean, reducing the chances of tartar build-up in hard to brush or floss places. When you invest in a straighter smile, you may also be investing in a healthier smile, and a lowered risk of cavities and periodontal disease. Malocclusion (“bad bite”) can also lead to problems with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) due to the forces of the jaw being unevenly distributed. Undue stress on certain teeth can make them more vulnerable to chipping or even breaking. Orthodontic treatment can be an investment with huge oral health dividends!
When veneers or white fillings aren’t an option, porcelain crowns can restore badly damaged teeth while also enhancing your smile’s appearance. Crowns are full-coverage restorations that allow cracked, decayed, or endodontically-treated teeth to continue functioning normally. They can also be placed on top of dental implants to replace missing teeth. Crowns look just like the teeth that they cover or replace, and lend your compromised tooth strength and aesthetic appeal.
